The the other day, I noticed the gray water pump cycling
every so often. Not a good thing to hear. When I checked I found a steady drip
of water coming from the front of the boat and it looked like it was coming
from the front water tank. Well, reluctantly, I decided that the tank had to
come out to find the source of the leak.

The inside of the Snow Goose tore apart... again |
As it turned out, I found the leak to be from two
hoses and the tank integrity was OK. Pulling the tank though, was a
blessing in desguise for there was a problem inside of the tank and also, under the tank
that had to be addressed.

Pulling the 50 gal tank |

Finally, out onto the dock |
|
close up of the failed interior coating... every bubble is a rust pocket! |
The coating inside of the tank (Por-15) had totally delaminated and the inside of the tank was rusting. I sandblasted the
inside of the tank and we plan to re-coat the inside with a food grade epoxy.

What a dirty job! |
Under the tank, the protective coating on top of the ballast
had also deteriorated and a bit of the ribs and the hull had started to rust. So it
was a serendipitous that the tank came out for it revealed this hidden
issue.
have you considered a blue plastic 55gal barrel secured to the fore deck? would be simple enough and the exposed pipe wouldn't freeze if you stayed semi-tropical or drained.
ReplyDeleteI bet that yall are glad that you left GR early enough to miss the snow!!
oh I forgot to ask why this leak wasn't discovered during the very through infestation remediation (sounds better than killing the roaches!) .
ReplyDeleteWe thought of the "BPB" on the front deck but HEY! we have standards on this old tub.
ReplyDeleteThe 'unwanted house guests' are in full retreat, only 1 in the last 6 days!!!
